SAIL THE GREEK ISLANDS

May 19-26, 2019

Cave Run Sailing Association is offering another exciting adventure cruise for 2019.  We will join a Sunsail flotilla beginning and ending at Sunsail’s Greek base at Lefkas Town on the island of Lefkas on the west coast of Greece.  This seven-day cruise will visit six ports of call on  Greek islands with a mixture of overnights at marinas and at anchor.

The cruise is appropriate for inexperienced and experienced sailors.  All crew members will have the opportunity to sail the boat including steering, navigating, sail handling and dock line handling. Experienced sailors will guide new sailors.  You may sail the boat as much or little as you wish or not at all.

This is a bare boat flotilla.  Bare boat means there is no paid crew and CRSA members will sail and dock the boat and do all the cooking.  A flotilla is a group of 6-10 boats with a lead boat manned by a Sunsail crew consisting of a Captain, Social Director and Engineer.

Sunsail provides guaranteed dock space at marinas, a variety of social events for the flotilla, and parts and repairs to the boats as needed.  The lead Captain holds a daily weather and navigation briefing for the boat skippers. The flotilla has an itinerary for the week, but the boats are free to sail as they wish port to port. We will have one free day to explore on our own.

For more information see Sunsail’s web site at https://www.sunsail.com/flotilla-sailing/greece-lefkas-flotilla. We are doing the Lefkas one-week flotilla.

We have reserved a 47’ monohull single mast boat with 4 double cabins, each with private head and electric toilet. The boat has a bow thruster, Lazy Jack sail storage, shore power AC and a large salon and galley.  This boat will be limited to 8 crew members.  If more than 8 apply for the trip, we will start a wait list and add additional boats.

Breakfast and lunch are usually on the boat and dinner is at shore restaurants where available.  Some nights will be at anchor at remote sites where dinner will be aboard. The crew will contribute to a food fund for meals aboard.  Each person will purchase the beverages they prefer. We will provision the boat the first night at Lefkas.

Here are the details:

Mallorca, Spain Cruise

May 5-12, 2018

CRSA is sponsoring a flotilla cruise at the island of Mallorca, Spain.  Mallorca is in the Mediterranean off the coast of Barcelona and Valencia. The marina is located at the capital city of Palma which has scheduled flights.  The flotilla is organized by Sunsail.

A flotilla is a group (6-12) of chartered boats with a lead boat crewed by a Captain, Repair Technician and Social Director. We will sail independently, but meet up at a reserved mooring each night.  The Social Director plans group dinners and other shore events. For more information go to http://www.sunsail.com/flotilla-sailing/destinations/mediterranean/spain.

BOAT

We have reserved a 47’ mono hull with 4 cabins, each with private head. The boat is a Premier category (1-3 years old) and is equipped with bow thruster, Lazyjack, electric toilets, air conditioning, towels and bedding.  We plan to have a maximum of 8 on the boat.

If they are available, we can charter additional boats if needed.

COST

The estimated cost of the cruise is $675 per person, based on two per cabin and eight total crew.  If we do not fill the boat, the cost will increase.  In addition, there is a refundable damage deposit of $155 for a total of $830. Captains have first cabin pick followed by crew in order of receipt of the deposit check.  To reserve a cabin, a deposit of $830 per person is required.  Deposits may be refunded after 12/31/2017 if a substitute crew member can be found.

WHAT IS INCLUDED

A shared berth, mooring fees and utilities, Sunsail partial damage waiver

WHAT IS NOT INCLUDED

Travel to Palma, on shore food and drinks.  A brief look at air fare showed a round trip from Lexington at $1600. Diligent shopping as well as flying from Cincinnati may result in a lower fare.  Crew members will contribute to a boat fund for on board food and supplies.

It is recommended not to make nonrefundable air and hotel reservations until we are sure the trip is going.  A lack of interest or other problem could occur which would cancel the cruise.
