Cave Run Sailing School 2010
Affiliated with the American Sailing Association (ASA)

Cave Run Sailing Association has taught sailing courses for many years.  This year we will offer the popular Beginning Sailing course along with a variety of American Sailing Association courses.  During 2009 there were 55 registrations for our sailing classes.  The Club was awarded the designation, Outstanding ASA Sailing School for 2007 and 2008. This is an honor accorded only 20 schools from by among the 300 ASA schools throughout the US.  Special congratulations to our ASA instructors for those years, Jeff Lagrew and Sam Moore for this achievement.  Furthermore, Jeff was named Outstanding Instructor by ASA for 2008.

Beginning Sailing

The Beginning Sailing course is a good way to determine if you like sailing and wish to continue learning how to sail.  Students with no sailing experience who wish to have an introduction are encouraged to take this course rather than starting with ASA 101.  The course is economical as it provides the learning experience plus a free one year membership in CRSA.  Students should complete the membership application found on the website, www.caverunsailing.org , and bring it to the first class meeting.  The course consists of two evenings of class work and one Saturday on the water at Cave Run Lake.   This course will be offered during the first week of May at $95 per person.  If interested send an email to saileduc@caverunsailing.org .  Complete your registration before April 21 by sending your check payable to CRSA to Cliff Hynniman 1253 Colonial Drive, Lexington, KY 40504.

American Sailing Association Certification Courses

The American Sailing Association (ASA) is the world's foremost organization dedicated to training, teaching, and certifying schools, sailing instructors and sailing enthusiasts. ASA sailing certification gives sailors of all experience levels an opportunity to become more competent and confident in their abilities. Sailors choose ASA schools because they want to follow a proven curriculum in a professional, supportive learning environment under the direction of ASA certified sailing instructors.  Students must successfully pass comprehensive tests to become certified.  ASA classes are only available to CRSA members in good standing.

Calendar dates for ASA classes are shown on the main CRSA Calendar. Please consult the Members Only pages for ASA course fees and registration procedures, or for more information email saileduc@caverunsailing.org .

Youth Sailing

Introduce your child to the thrills of sailing in the Youth Sailing Program.  Interested children between the ages of 7 and 14 years will find the Youth Program a great opportunity to learn the basics of sailing.  The class is open to children of CRSA members, including brand new members.  Small sailboats specifically designed for teaching youth sailing will be used.  The course covers water safety, boat anatomy, rigging, knots, points of sail, and boat maintenance.  It will be taught at Jacobson Park, Lexington, KY, June through October depending on weather or student schedule conflicts.  Prior year students who want to further improve their skills are also welcome.  Youth Sailing Director, Chuck Emrich, emrich@aol.com
